The airline was formed in 1974 and is a founding member of the oneworld alliance. BA flies a mixed fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. British Airways is owned by the holding company International Consolidated Airlines Group, S.A.; or often shortened to IAG. The company was formed in January 2011 by the merger of British Airways and Iberia, the flag carrier airlines of the United Kingdom and Spain respectively with British Airways holding 55% of the newly formed company.
